The GM of the Year is finally in Dallas

The Dallas Stars offered general manager Jim Nill a new two-year contract on Monday.

The man, who earned the title of GM last season in the National Hockey League (NHL), has been with the Texas club since the 2012-2013 season. The Stars went 403-280-98 under him and made the playoffs six times.

Nill is the longest-serving general manager of the same club after Doug Armstrong (St. Louis Blue), Jarmo Kekalainen (Columbus Blue Jackets) and Kevin Cheveldayoff (Winnipeg Jets).

“Jim has proven to be one of the best GMs in the NHL,” Stars owner Tom Gaglardi said in a statement. He meticulously built one of the best teams in the league by making trades, through the free agent market, and with the draft. He assured us that the Stars will be Stanley Cup contenders for years to come.”

“My family and I are grateful to Tom Gaglardi for his dedication to the organization and for providing me with all the resources available to build this team,” said Nill. I am fortunate to have an incredible team by my side who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make our team what it is today. I look forward to continuing my work in developing a winning culture and achieving our common goal of winning the Stanley Cup.”

Before joining the stars, Nill served as an assistant GM for the Detroit Red Wings for many years. He also played 524 games as a forward in the NHL, where he played for the Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins, Jets and Red Wings.
