The Sureté du Québec (SQ) has established a command post in the region to expedite the search.

However, the police advise citizens not to carry out a search themselves.

“It’s normal, people want to help,” said the SQ spokesman in an interview on LCN.

“It takes experts, it takes specialists to do the research.”

A dozen police officers will be patrolling the riverbank in addition to drone and helicopter support.

The divers’ efforts are once again put on hold as the currents are deemed too dangerous, all the more reason for residents of the sector to stay away from the waters.

“We want to avoid any unfortunate occurrences or incidents that may occur during the search operation,” the spokesman said.
