Boys spinoff Gen V looks like a bloody bacchanalian in new trailer – The Verge

Amazon’s live-action adaptation of The Boys has always been a uniquely gory superhero series, and the same seems to apply to Gen V as well – the streamer’s upcoming spin-off show focuses on training college-aged superheroes for the big leagues. But unlike the thick, red liquid oozing from The Boys — which has always felt like an overly gory detail meant to emphasize just how violent the world Vought International rules really is — the blood of Gen V seems to serve an interesting purpose, as a new trailer reveals.

Gen V focuses on the lives of a series of students who matriculate at Godolkin University’s School of Crimefighting – Vought’s school for super-powered people after being exposed to Compound V. Like many of the kids in Godolkin, Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) dreams of one day becoming a world-famous superhero and has no idea just how corrupt all Vought-sponsored corporations are once you really start dealing with them.

At first, Marie can easily get the feeling that Godolkin could be just as good for her as it seems to be for mass manipulator Emma Meyer (Lizze Broadway), shapeshifter Jordan (Derek Luh and London Thor), and empath Cate Dunlap (Maddie Phillips). But when popular ferrokineticist Andre Anderson (Chance Perdomo) invites Marie into his social circle and the drug-addicted party life that comes with it, she begins to realize just what a dangerous situation she’s in – a situation where her ability to manipulate blood will likely come in handy.

Gen V is coming to Amazon on September 29th.
