NHL: André Tourigny is very popular in Arizona

Arizona Coyotes head coach André Tourigny will be in charge of his next contract negotiations.

In an interview with the National Hockey League (NHL) website, general manager Bill Armstrong praised his services and reiterated that he was going to offer him a contract extension.

The contract with the Quebecer, who has led the “Yotes” for the last two seasons, must be completed at the end of the 2023-2024 season. At the head of the team, he held a record of 53-90-21.

“He did very well in Stage 1,” said the Coyotes’ GM. He managed to sell his plan to the players. The players bought the culture and he convinced them to compete every night.

“We are now entering the second phase where we aim to add good players to the squad and play games that are about staking. I think he did an excellent job and I think we will be able to offer him a contract extension to be together in the future and live phase 2 with him. He is someone who has really managed to establish his culture in the organization and makes us believe.

The headmaster concerned meanwhile reiterated that he has no intention of changing his formula, pointing out that his contractual situation must not affect his education.

“It doesn’t change anything,” said the 49-year-old. The only thing that will allow me to improve my situation is to keep doing what I do every day. If it will [une distraction], you are clearly in the wrong place. So you have to concentrate on your tasks and on the present.”

Before being signed by the Coyotes, Tourigny was an assistant head coach with the Colorado Avalanche (2013-2015) and the Ottawa Senators (2015-2016). Born Nicolet, he was also the driver of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (2003 to 2013), the Halifax Mooseheads (2016–2017) and the Ottawa 67’s (2017 to 2020).
