Havana, July 24. – Miguel Diaz-Canel, The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic today welcomed the 18th anniversary of the multiplatform broadcaster Telesur, and stressed that this is the case Image and voice of the peoples in battle.
Via Twitter, the Cuban head of state described this multimedia as a guardian of truth and an emancipatory dream of historical leaders Fidel Castro of Cuba and Hugo Chávez of Venezuela.
“Our north is the south”. “We already knew, but no one had said it so beautifully until July 24, 2005,” Díaz-Canel wrote in his message, referring to the phrase that has identified Telesur with an initial study in Venezuela since the beginning of its broadcasts.
As the multimedia emphasizes on its website, from a media point of view it is a counter-hegemonic and decolonizing South American television project, different from the traditional spaces responding to capitalist interests.

At its birth, which coincided with the 222nd birthday of El Libertador Simón Bolívar, it had the support of the governments of Cuba, Bolivia, Argentina, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Venezuela and currently maintains offices in Quito (Ecuador), Mexico City (Mexico) and Havana (Cuba), with English language broadcasts from the latter city for the Caribbean, Europe and Africa.
To mark its 18th anniversary, Telesur announces that the company will also be making new product offerings available to the public in both audio and video form to enhance its information offering.
