The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 resumes on Monday (on FS1 and the FOX Sports App) with a match between Group A New Zealand and the Philippines at the Wellington Regional Stadium in New Zealand.
The Philippines started with a historic goal from Sarina Bolden, who fired a perfect header, the first goal the Philippines had scored at a FIFA Women’s World Cup.
New Zealand produced several good performances in the first half but the Philippines held them off and took a 1-0 lead at the break.
According to FIFA, New Zealand is ranked 26th in the world while the Philippines are ranked 46th.
Going into the game New Zealand, 13th in our current World Cup Power Rankings, are on three points after losing 1-0 to Norway in last week’s opener. A win can secure the Football Ferns – led by Betsy Hassett, Ali Riley and Hannah Wilkinson – a place in the knockout rounds.
On the other hand, the Philippines lost their first game against Switzerland after failing to fire a single shot on goal. The team, led by Tahnai Annis, is aiming for a resurgent performance.
