Stingray responds on Facebook and Instagram

Due to Meta’s recent decision to stop posting journalistic content on its platforms, Stingray is ceasing all advertising of its products on Facebook and Instagram in Canada.

The company, which operates in the music, media and technology sectors, made the decision on Tuesday. The news was announced in a press release.

Meta had stopped sharing journalistic content following the passage of Bill C-18 on online news, which notably provides for compensation for web giants for the use of news on their platforms.

Eric Boyko, President, Co-Founder and CEO of Stingray spoke about the importance of media in democracy. He urges other companies to stop advertising on the Meta, Facebook and Instagram platforms.

“We believe in the importance of a diverse and vibrant media landscape that supports a healthy democracy,” he wrote. We cannot tolerate Meta’s recent decision to block news from Canadian news media publishers and its potential impact on Canadian news content.”

She is therefore one of the many organizations that have decided to take action against Meta, such as the Federation of Quebec Workers, several levels of government or even Metro and Desjardins.

Earlier, press editors and broadcasters also called for an investigation into this news blackout by the Competition Office.
