The last 16 of the Copa Libertadores is coming to an end. There are already six teams who have secured their place in the quarter-finals of the world’s top club tournament Conmebol. This Thursday, August 10th, the last two classifieds from the race Racing vs. Atlético Nacional and Flamengo vs. Olympia.
The first to get their ticket were those from Fluminense, who defeated Argentinos Juniors 3-1 on aggregate in the deciding game. Hours later came the first upset of the period when Bolívar eliminated Athletico Paranaense on penalties in the same Brazil (5-4). River Plate was also eliminated by Internacional de Porto Alegre (9-8) after 12 points.
Another situation was that of Boca Juniors, who imposed the maximum penalty on Uruguay’s Nacional but ended up eliminating him (4-2). The second upset of the round of 16 came in Deportivo Pereira vs. Independiente del Valle, as the Colombian club beat the Ecuadorians 2-1 on aggregate to reach the quarterfinals in their first Copa Libertadores appearance. Eventually, Palmeiras eliminated Atlético Mineiro.
