The Carolina Hurricanes added further depth to the blue line by signing Caleb Jones to a one-year contract Thursday.
The 26-year-old is the ninth National Hockey League-class defenseman to sign a contract with the team. He is expected to battle with Dylan Coghlan and Jalen Chatfield for seventh backcourt next season.

According to Sportsnet, Jones would have agreed to a deal that nets him slightly more money than the minimum allowed by the league. It is a pay cut for whoever earned $1.35 million with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2022-2023.
Seth Jones’ little brother had his most productive season with 16 points, including four goals, in 73 games. He maintained a -19 rating on a defense that was among the worst in Bettman league.
In his career in 2015, the Edmonton Oilers’ fourth-round pick accumulated 50 points in 217 games.
