Iga Swiatek not only defeated Karolina Muchova on Thursday, she also defeated the elements.

When the Roland Garros final resumed, the Pole (1st) again won over the Czechs (17th) 6:1, 4:6 and 6:4.

The players endured two long delays caused by rain, a first of 3:20 and a second of 2:50, between which they could play the first game of the third set.

The game started at 12:30pm and ended up ending at 9:37pm which is pretty mind blowing.

“It wasn’t easy because we had to keep up our energy since we’ve been here since 9am. “It’s an extraordinary day and I don’t think I’ve ever experienced that in my career,” said the winner at the end of the meeting.

Don’t think that Swiatek dominated the first set because she won it 6-1.

It all ended with two breaks of serve in the fourth and sixth games. During the latter, Muchova saved four break points but still escaped.

The players fought a very close game with several long rallies, interrupted by spectacular shots and great precision.

We have to admire the nuances in play from Swiatek, who is equally capable of making an ace on a powerful serve as placing soft padding a few inches from the net.

tug of war

The second set followed the same logic but saw an amazing streak in which the players played four consecutive games in which they broke the opponent’s serve.

At this point it started to rain for the first time.

They returned to the field after a 3:20 break and Swiatek had time from the start to break Muchova’s serve, then the rain continued and they returned to the dressing room for 2:50. And in the end, it was that break that made the game crucial.

Pegula at 3e round

The American Jessica Pegula (3rd) had no problems kicking off Jasmine Paolini (49th) in two sets 6:4 and 6:0.

The Italian fought well in the opener but was beaten by a break of serve but Pegula made short work of it in the following set.

Note that Paolini advanced to the third round due to the withdrawal of her previous opponent, Madison Keys.

In another match, the Russian Daria Kasatkina (14th) defeated the Czech Marie Bouzkova (37th) in straight sets 6:3 and 6:4.
