A former New York Giants player appeared in court in New York City and admitted trying to sell fentanyl-laced drugs outside of his Harlem home during his “compassionate release.”

Clyde “Peter” Hall, 84, referenced his previous career in the NFL when he told a federal court judge in Manhattan he knew what he was doing when he was trying to sell cocaine.

“I was a professional athlete. “All my life I’ve lived by the standards,” Hall, who appeared in a tan jumpsuit, told Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil. “So the answer is yes, I knew what I was breaking the law.”

Hall was released from prison on a merciful release during the COVID-19 pandemic while serving a 20-year sentence for financial fraud crimes.

At that time he was arrested when he tried to sell six kilograms of cocaine on April 24, 2021.

Hall said he was unaware that the person who bought the drugs was a DEA whistleblower and that phone calls between Hall and the agent were recorded.

The former wide receiver faced a possible life sentence before agreeing to a plea deal on Thursday.

Because of the reduced charges, he may be serving a sentence of between 11 and 14 years under federal sentencing guidelines for attempting to sell 40 grams of a controlled substance containing fentanyl.

In addition, Hall must serve the remainder of his 20-year sentence – which runs until 2026.

“Clyde took full responsibility for his role.” “Despite his age, we remain confident he will not spend the rest of his life in prison,” said his attorney Jason Goldman.

Hall is scheduled to be sentenced on December 5. He played 12 games for the Giants during the 1961 season, catching just two catches for 22 yards.
