Another major league baseball team could be moving

If the Milwaukee Brewers don’t get enough money to renovate their stadium, team owners could decide to relocate the franchise.

Changes to American Family Field are required to meet the terms of the Brewers’ lease with the Southeast Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District, but without a funding agreement, money could run out, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Friday.

American media, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that the organization was considering the possibility of a departure. This could be a negotiating tactic here as most parties seem to agree.

In February, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers offered to use $290 million in state funds to ensure the team stays at that stadium. There have been very few new developments since then, although Commissioner Rob Manfred urged lawmakers to act during his visit in May.

The team’s lease with stadium managers ends in 2030, and owner Mark Attanasio reportedly intends to keep the Brewers in Milwaukee. So does Evers, a representative of the Democratic Party who, however, has to convince his Republican partners in Wisconsin to release funds.

In the event of a move, destinations such as Charlotte, North Carolina and Nashville, Tennessee would be preferred. Fans of the defunct Montreal Expos should also keep an eye on this situation.

In Oakland, the Athletics staff plans to build a stadium in Las Vegas to continue the club’s operations there in 2028.
