A well-meaning Georgia father-son duo decided to do their good deed Tuesday morning by picking up a hitchhiker, only to later learn he was a murder suspect.
While driving, Russell Jimmerson noticed a stranger hitchhiking by the side of the road and decided to stop.
“He got in touch very quickly. I said to my son, “Let’s get him.” I help everyone,” he told local broadcaster WXIA. “He had been walking all night from Rabun County.”
After getting him on board, he found the 23-year-old – Keegan Philips – stank. After dropping him off on the motorway shortly thereafter, Mr Jimmerson learned he was a suspected murderer.
In a phone call, he learned that a “guy from Rabun County” had murdered someone the night before and that a person’s body had been found in a forest.
A North Carolina native, Keegan Philips was charged shortly after his arrest by police, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.
