Gal Gadot opens up about the upcoming Snow White live-action remake and reveals she had to audition for the role of the Evil Queen

Gal Gadot will be the evil queen in the upcoming live-action musical fantasy film, Snow White.

Although the actress was a high-profile actress after her role as Wonder Woman in two feature films, she had to audition to land the role in the 1937 remake of Walt Disney’s animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

It turns out that when director Marc Webb and the producers asked Gadot to act out a scene from the script, they weren’t worried about her acting skills.

“It was the first time I’ve had to audition for a project in a while,” the Israeli actress revealed in an interview with GQ, adding, “They had to make sure I could sing because this is a musical.”

Gadot, 38, went on to share about her lengthy preparations and practicing her singing before the audition.

The Fast & Furious franchise star said she ended up practicing her musical skills for a whole month.

“So I worked on the song for a month, then I auditioned, we filmed the song and I got the part and it was very exciting,” she said during the GQ interview.

The new film, which will star Rachel Zegler as Snow White, features new songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the songwriting duo behind The Greatest Showman and Dear Evan Hansen.

Since principal photography for the live-action remake was shot and completed in July 2022, Gadot has since described the experience as “unlike anything I’ve ever done.”

She added, “It’s so delicious and delightful, and I could get really big and theatrical.”

In a previous interview with People, the leading lady opened up about how one of her three daughters, Maya, six, thought her mother would play Snow White when she found out she would be in the film.

“When I told them I was going to shoot Snow White [a] month she was convinced that I would play Snow White,” she shared. “But when I told her, ‘No, it’s the Evil Queen,’ my eldest said, ‘Oh, how fitting.’

Speaking to Deadline, Gadot admitted that she’s not used to portraying a villain on screen and that she’s “used to playing on the other end of where the heart should be.”
