The Milwaukee Brewers are on the verge of exploring relocation options as the team looks to renovate American Family Field.

Accordingly FrontOfficeSportsThe team is seeking a $448 million modernization of the stadium, which opened in 2001.

While moving isn’t the right move, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred appears to be putting pressure on Wisconsin state officials to allocate funds by suggesting the team could be looking to move as early as the fall.

American Family Field – formerly known as Miller Park – took place in 1996 before the grand opening in 2001.

Previously, the Brewers had played at Milwaukee County Stadium — a park that was open for 50 years before closing in 2000.

If the Brewers relocate, they would be one of four teams to have been relocated twice in their history.

Other teams that have moved twice include the Orioles (Milwaukee to St. Louis to Baltimore), the Athletics (Philadelphia to Kansas City to Oakland), and the Braves (Boston to Milwaukee to Atlanta). With a planned move to Las Vegas, the Athletics will be the only team to have moved three times

The Brewers were formed in 1969 as the Seattle Pilots and played there just one season before Bud Selig moved them to Milwaukee.

Selig — who later became Major League Baseball’s commissioner — brought the team to Milwaukee to fill the void left by the Braves’ move to Atlanta.

During the franchise’s existence, the Brewers played in both the American League and the National League.

They have won three NL Central titles – most recently in 2021 – as well as two AL East titles in the 1981 and 1982 seasons.

The Brewers reached the World Series once in 1982, where they lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games.

It’s unclear exactly where the Brewers plan to relocate, but rumors of expansion in recent years have mentioned cities like Austin, San Antonio, Nashville and Portland.
