Although some sources have reported in recent days that the National Hockey League (NHL) is about to crack down on former Canada junior team players involved in a gang rape, no specific date has been announced.
At least that’s what the website The Athletic said about its journalist Katie Strang on Friday. The latter asked NHL Assistant Commissioner Bill Daly if an announcement could be expected by the time training camps begin in mid-September. The director replied by email that there was no deadline for this.

In early August, journalist Andy Strickland said on a podcast that five hockey players would soon be suspended, adding that they were “important names.” In May 2022, the Bettman Circuit confirmed it was opening an internal investigation into the scandal that rocked Hockey Canada after being informed of a lawsuit against eight skaters. On the sidelines of a gala in London in June 2018, flag bearers from the junior formation committed a gang rape. The national association was embarrassed by an out-of-court settlement with the victim.
In March, the Canadian Ice Hockey Federation ruled that 2018 ECJ players were no longer eligible to represent the country on the international stage while the investigation was ongoing. Among them are Cale Makar, Maxime Comtois, Carter Hart and Victor Mete.
