Early in the morning, in broad daylight, in the evening: Parcel theft is becoming more common and can happen at any time of the day.

Video obtained by TVA Nouvelles of a residential theft in Quebec City reminds us that no one is immune from being a victim of this crime.
In surveillance camera footage from August 10 last year, we can see three little boys roaming near the house before one of them puts his hand on the package.

The Consumer Protection Agency is seeing an increase in complaints related to package theft.
With home delivery growing in popularity, the public body advises that remedial measures are available to customers.
“The retailer must ensure that you only receive the goods that you have ordered. Whoever receives it has it in their own hands. Unless you have specifically agreed to leave the package where it could be stolen, otherwise you have all rights,” said Consumer Protection Agency spokesman Charles Tanguay.
“It’s as if the package never reached you. Whether it was stolen or lost doesn’t matter. The retailer must either refund you or send you another package. You always have the option to cancel the order until you have received the package.

Keep in mind that if you have a disagreement, the refund process with the merchant or credit card issuer may slow down.
However, with this type of theft, the law is on your side.
