Vivek Ramaswamy caused a stir at the Iowa State Fair on Saturday by rapping to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.”

Ramaswamy, 38, ended his fair talk with Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds by performing to the hit song.

The audience cheered him on and Reynolds gave him a high-five when he finished his performance.

Reynolds had asked the business mogul what his favorite song for the strike was, and Ramaswamy said his song was “Lose Yourself”. She joked that she showed her age by not recognizing this tune.

Ramaswamy spends Saturday fighting for votes at the annual event. It’s a busy day for anyone interested in the 2024 presidential campaign as GOP contenders Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley also campaign at the fairgrounds.

The biotech entrepreneur is the youngest contender for the Republican nomination in 2024, but had a surprising peak in the polls for that race.

He was ranked fourth in the most recent poll of Iowa voters. And some national polls showed Ramaswamy in second place ahead of DeSantis. He ranks third in the RealClearPolitics poll average for the race.

Trump still leads the competition by double digits.

But there is no doubt that Ramaswamy, who brings a lot of energy to the campaign phase, has some momentum on his side. He’s already qualified to take the stage at the first Republican presidential debate on August 23 in Milwaukee.

According to polls, there are younger Republicans and voters with college degrees like the 38-year-old.

In his election campaign, he turned to younger voters. He spent Friday night posing for selfies and speaking to constituents at Jalapeño Pete’s, a popular bar in Des Moines.

He said his campaign’s message is to “speak the hard truths, the truth that you might say at the dinner table but don’t feel free to speak out in public.”

During his conversation with Reynolds, he discussed his conservative policies, including a plan to drastically reduce the number of federal employees.

He said he would undertake a 75 percent “downsizing” with 50 percent being eliminated in the first year alone.

At the end of his conversation, he donned a red hat, grabbed the mic, and belted out “Lose Yourself.” The song won an Oscar for Best Original Song in the movie 8 Mile in 2003, becoming the first hip-hop song to win the award.

During his college days at Harvard, Ramaswamy had a side hustle as a libertarian-minded rap artist, performing under the stage name “Da Vek.”

He said he was inspired by Eminem.

“He’s growing up in trailers, with a single mother, and he wants to make it.” He’ll take the opportunity to do it. “He feels like he’s going to seize the moment to do it, he seizes it and then he makes it happen, and I thought it was a pretty cool story,” Ramaswamy told Politico last month.

“I didn’t grow up in a trailer, but I didn’t grow up in the same circumstances as most of my fellow Harvard students either.” I aspired to do what many of their parents did. It kind of appealed to me, I’d say.’
