“A Ukrainian drone attack in Kursk,” Roman Starovoyt said on Telegram, “according to preliminary information, he crashed into the roof of the station building, after which a fire broke out on the roof.”

“Five people were slightly injured by broken glass,” he added, adding that rescue workers were at the scene.

Kursk is only about 90 kilometers from the border between Russia and Ukraine.

For his part, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that a drone tried to fly towards Moscow, but the attack was foiled.

“He was slowed down by the air defense forces,” the mayor said on Telegram, thanking “the military for their work.”

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, quoted the TASS news agency, the drone was spotted over the Stupinsky district of the Moscow region on the way to the capital. It was destroyed by electronic means and crashed in a deserted area without causing any casualties or damage, the ministry said, denouncing an attempted “terrorist attack” by the “Kiev regime”.

TASS also reported that Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports serving the Russian capital are temporarily closed.

Vnukovo International Airport has experienced brief overnight closures several times in recent months due to drone strikes in the Moscow region.

Both warring factions in the conflict, which began in February 2022, have recently reported regular drone strikes, while Ukraine launched a counteroffensive to retake Russian-held territory.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, seven people were killed and 144 wounded in a Russian rocket attack on the city of Chernihiv in northern Ukraine on Saturday.

The strike took place while part of the town’s population was at church to celebrate the Orthodox feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord.
