The “Bachelorette” star Georgia Love has spoken out for the first time since the “casual racism” scandal that led to her being banned from her on-air duties at Channel Seven.

The former news anchor, 34, made headlines in late 2021 for all the wrong reasons when she posted a video asking if a cat was on a Chinese restaurant’s menu after seeing the animal in the window.

Georgia, who decided to remain silent after the scandal, finally spoke to Stellar magazine this week to denounce the abandonment culture while also apologizing for her actions.

“I hate the term resignation.” To believe that we have the option to fire someone – whether it’s from their industry, their job, their family and friends. “We don’t have the ability to do that,” she said.

Georgia said the abort culture is unfair because people aren’t given the opportunity to defend themselves in the “heat of the moment.”

Georgia also lamented the aftermath of the scandal, telling the magazine, “I had my dream job. Every day I was so fortunate to be able to do what I loved and what I had dreamed of for so long.”

“Losing that on-air job – I continued to work at Seven but was taken off the air by the aftermath of the disaster – was probably the hardest part for me because I’ve always valued and focused on my work .’ and my career.’

Still, Georgia said she never intended to “deliberately upset or offend anyone” and “deeply regrets” the upset it caused, adding, “I’ve thought about it a lot.” I’ve learned a lot.

Georgia released the controversial footage in September 2021 while visiting a Chinese restaurant in her hometown of Melbourne.

Filming a cat sitting behind a diner window, Georgia wrote, “Shop clerk or lunch?!”

Critics claimed the footage was offensive and promoted a harmful stereotype about the Chinese people.

Georgia deleted the post and apologized after being confronted by the Influencer Watchdog Instagram account Aussie Influencer Opinions.

The same report later discovered another post by Love from February 2013, in which she made a similar joke about pets and Asian restaurants.

Love’s 2013 post featured an “animal hospital” next to a restaurant called “China Chef.”

Below the photo of the two storefronts was a cartoon image of a dog, next to the text: “This is suspicious…”

Love captioned it “Best” at the time.

Love previously apologized for her cat video but denied there was any racist “insult” behind it.

“Earlier I posted a video of a cat in a restaurant window. “I wanted this to be a joke about an animal that was in a restaurant at lunchtime,” she said.

“I meant absolutely no insinuation about the type of animal or the type of restaurant, but I can see that my post didn’t come across as offensive.”

“I sincerely apologize for the oversight and the offense I caused.” Thank you to those who called me out. This is what we need to make sure we all take responsibility and do better.

“Again, I apologize from the bottom of my heart for the insult caused.”
