“Blue Beetle” steals Barbie’s top spot at the North American box office

After four weeks of seeing Life in Pink, the North American box office has a new champion: “Barbie” has been knocked out of the top spot by superhero film “Blue Beetle,” specialist company Exhibitor Relationships estimated on Sunday.

Puerto Rican director Angel Manuel Soto’s feature film, which sees a college student’s body held hostage by a mysterious bug that grants him powerful powers, grossed $25.4 million in US and Canadian theaters this weekend. End.

The main role is played by 22-year-old American actor Xolo Mariduena. However, according to analyst David Gross, the box office sales for this release are only a third of those typically recorded for a superhero film.

Despite being relegated to second place on the podium, “Barbie” still raked in $21.5 million on the bill by week five.

The film follows an intensive marketing campaign in which the legendary Mattel doll, played by Margot Robbie, ventures into the real world alongside her clumsy friend Ken (Ryan Gosling).

In third place was the portrait of the designer of the atomic bomb “Oppenheimer” produced by Christopher Nolan, which brought him $10.6 million in sales.

Fourth place went to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who received a facelift with Ninja Turtles: Teenage Years, raising over $8.4 million.

Close behind was the $8.3 million comedy Backstreet Dogs, which sees abandoned dogs on a mission to get revenge on a former owner, in fifth place when it premiered this week.
