Rosario Dawson explains how the makeup process has improved from The Mandalorian to her new series Ahsoka…cutting it in half from three hours to 90 minutes
As fans prepare for the highly-anticipated Disney Plus Star Wars series Ahsoka to debut this week — the streaming service is pushing back the premiere by a day — star Rosario Dawson enlightens fans about the complicated make -up process on.
Her title character was introduced as Anakin Skywalker’s 14-year-old padawan in the 2008 film Star Wars: The Clone Wars before appearing in the animated series of the same name and the follow-up series Star Wars Rebels with the voice of Ashley Eckstein.
Dawson came on board to portray the character in the live-action film The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett before this new limited series premieres on August 22 with a two-episode premiere.
The 44-year-old actress’ character belongs to a species known as Togruta in the Star Wars universe and is best known for their unique “head-to-tail” characters, known as Montrals.
In a new interview with EW, she revealed they were able to cut the makeup process from over three hours on The Mandalorian to 90 minutes on Ahsoka.

Makeup: In a new interview with EW, she revealed they were able to cut the makeup process from over three hours on The Mandalorian to 90 minutes on Ahsoka
“We were very proud! We measured our time every day. Depending on how much skin there was, it sometimes took up to two hours,” she said.
“And that’s tough: We would leave at 4 a.m. every day so that by the time the crew got there at 6 we’d be ready,” Dawson added.
“We would have a full day and then it would take at least another half hour to take everything off,” she continued.
The makeup process included attaching custom headpieces and painting her face, as the crew noticed how different the hues looked in sunlight and in “Volume,” which has been described as “the breakthrough LED technology for projecting realistic backgrounds.” becomes sentence.’
“It was like, ‘Okay, I look really good in the light, but now I’m neon,'” she joked, which led to the color being adjusted for each scene.
“The Montrale are longer. It’s all 3D printed and it moves completely differently. It’s easier,” she added.
“This technology literally didn’t exist when we first played the character in The Mandalorian, so it’s been really cool to see her evolving,” she continued.

The popular multimedia epic space opera franchise announced in a tweet that Ahsoka’s premiere date on Disney+, the popular subscription streaming service, would be pushed back by one day and that new episodes would be available in prime time.
“Thank you to all the fans who celebrated with us last night at our @AhsokaOfficial fan events around the world!” reads the lengthy post on the Star Wars Twitter account.
“We’re excited to announce that new episodes of #Ahsoka will now premiere on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. PT, beginning with our two-episode premiere on August 22, exclusively on @DisneyPlus.”
A one-minute, four-second video clip was posted with the tweet, showing excited Star Wars fans attending several promotional events, also from the upcoming limited series.
