Six perfect laps for Édouard Julien and the Twins

The Minnesota Twins played perfectly defensively for six innings in Sunday’s 2-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Quebec’s Édouard Julien and his teammates saw their hopes of the first perfect game in Twins history dashed in the seventh inning. Bryan Reynolds, the second batter to the plate during that engagement, hit a disappointing double in the Target Fields stands. It was the first of only two goals for the Pirates in the duel.

That also ended the game for pitcher Dallas Keuchel (1-1), who completed six and a third inning and knocked out three rivals.

Julien, who was used as fifth batter, drove both heats for his team. He hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth and a double in the sixth. Both times it was Donovan Solano who put his foot on home plate.

The Twins and Julien return Tuesday in the first of a short two-game series against the Brewers in Milwaukee.
