JAN MOIR Snow has woken up The star of new

JAN MOIR: Snow has woken up! The star of new movie ‘Snow White’ has dubbed the prince a ‘stalker’, says the remake of the classic movie isn’t a love story – and doesn’t mention the seven ‘magical creatures’!

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the dumbest of them all?

For now, it has to be Rachel Zegler, the American actress who stars as Snow White in the new live-action remake of her own Walt Disney classic cartoon, itself a version of the famous Grimm fairy tale.

The 22-year-old rising star gives interviews in which she tells whoever will listen about the Disney Original’s serious flaws.

“It came out in 1937, and it was obvious,” she sniffed a TV spot. “The focus is on Snow White’s love story with a man who literally haunts her.” Ha ha! Strange!’

Elsewhere, she said that the new film “isn’t really about the love story at all, which is really, really wonderful,” and suggested all of the prince’s scenes could be dropped.

“Just because there’s a man in it doesn’t mean it’s a love story,” she said.

But what about Snow White herself? Surely feminist Rachel isn’t just going to undo this supine, apple-cheeked, prince-ridden, midget-loving disgrace to feminism? Of course not.

“I’m just saying it’s not 1937 anymore. Snow White will not dream of true love — she will dream of becoming the leader she knows she can be,” she said.

So far, so depressing. Rachel Zegler has shown that not only did she lose track – she didn’t get the plot at all.

And why bother taking part in a remake of a beloved story if you feel so bad about it?

“I was afraid of the original version. I think I saw it once and never picked it up again. “I’m so serious,” she said.

Really? I remember this animated classic as absolutely magical and I suspect tens of millions of women would agree.

It’s no secret that Snow White isn’t exactly Wonder Woman, even though she wore a little red cape. There’s no argument there.

Still, she wasn’t a malevolent influence, nor has it been shown to inhibit female ambition.

Generations of women have been fascinated by Snow White’s adventures, but that didn’t make us want to live in a cabin with seven little men and spend all day picking up their tiny socks. . . although Coleen Rooney was close.

This new Snow Woke version was co-written by Greta Gerwig – who just had a huge hit with the Barbie movie – and was filmed in England last year.

And it’s not just Rachel’s crushes — presumably her feelings reflect the cast and crew’s opinions — that suggest it’s going to be so awake as to choke.

There’s no handsome prince, for example – it smacks of royalty and inherited privileges, so it was cancelled. Instead we have a character named Jonathan played by Andrew Burnap. The seven dwarfs have been replaced by seven ‘magical creatures’ and photos taken in a field in Bedfordshire show they are a melting pot of races and (I think!) genders, with just one really small person among them.

Is this progress, tokenism, denigration of the common people community, or none of the above? Mark my words, as Grumpy once said himself, trouble is brewing.

Part of the problem is that Zegler’s smug wokism not only fails to appreciate the beauty of allegory in literature, the history of Central European folklore, and the artistry of Walt Disney in creating a masterpiece—he also refuses to recognize that not every Woman who wants to be a boss girl or leader who desperately seeks power and prestige for her own sake.

In addition, it is not anti-feminist to want to fall in love with a handsome prince and long for a happy life forever.

In fact, it’s anti-feminist and condescending to suggest that those women who desire these things, perhaps primarily to become wives, mothers, and housewives, somehow deserve less respect than female entrepreneurs and careerists—well, Rachel Zegler. And that’s a shame, because her own life was a bit like a fairy tale itself.

Rachel was only 17 and still at school in New Jersey when Steven Spielberg selected her from 30,000 applicants to play Maria in his recent hit adaptation of West Side Story.

At the age of 20 she won a Golden Globe for this role. Everything looked rosy for their future – but it didn’t work out that way. It’s been around since her controversial Snow White statements

was a predictable online backlash. A clip has emerged of Rachel crying and talking about the death threats she has received, which would elicit a pang of sympathy from even the most evil witch.

“I signed up for this, didn’t I? “But I never wanted to come across as ungrateful for this opportunity,” she sobs.

However, some say the footage is old and refers not to Snow White but to controversial incidents or remarks made by Zegler in the past.

Which? Make your choice. She once poked fun at Britney Spears after the troubled pop star sent desperate tweets to a family member.

On another occasion, Zegler openly scoffed at the role of Anthea in the DC characters’ superhero film Shazam! Fury Of The Gods by saying she only took the role because she “needed a job”.

Last week she faced renewed criticism after appearing at the picket lines in New York where members of the Writers’ and Actors’ Union strike against the major studios.

She told news crews, “If I have to be in the dress of an iconic Disney princess 18 hours a day, I deserve to be paid for every hour it’s streamed online.”

Maybe so, but her hot attitude seemed a little insensitive considering the strike is primarily targeting those creatives and film crew members who are paid exponentially less than actors and actresses.

Who knows what will happen next. Maybe the new Snow Woke will be a hoot and everyone will love it, even if the omens are not good. How one longs for the innocent days of Disney, when Walt just wanted to excite and entertain people.

No conversation today is complete without the audience being repeatedly bludgeoned with correctness while being told by a little girl who seeks to improve her own virtue and status by destroying the reputation and legacy of others, what to think about everything.

And maybe Rachel Zegler will learn to cope better with being in the spotlight.

I hate to sound patronizing myself, but she’s very young and this is all very new to her.

But when Rachel began her Disney journey, there was no way she could have imagined that she herself would be the biggest damsel in distress.
