For his 12the In this edition, the Quebec City Film Festival (FCVQ) rolls out its red carpet for some of the fall’s most anticipated Quebec films, including new works by Denys Arcand, Monia Chokri and Sophie Dupuis.
Sophie Dupuis’ previously announced new feature film, Solo, will have the honor of opening the ball at Le Diamant on September 14, days after its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. The director will walk the red carpet accompanied by several of the stars of her film (Théodore Pellerin, Félix Maritaud, Anne-Marie Cadieux).
The dramatic comedy Simple comme Sylvain by director Monia Chokri (Babysitter) is also entitled to an evening on the red carpet on September 16, at the end of the festival. Remember that Simple comme Sylvain, which brings together Magalie Lépine-Blondeau and Pierre-Yves Cardinal on screen, was successfully presented at the Cannes Film Festival last May.
Then, on September 29th, it’s the turn of renowned filmmaker Denys Arcand to stop by the Capitale-Nationale to present his new film Testament. Although this screening will take place two weeks after the festival ends, it is still part of the 12th edition of the event.
“For us, the occasion was too good to miss the opportunity to present Denys Arcand’s new film,” FCVQ program director Paul Landriau told the newspaper. We see this as a bonus for festival goers. We are truly honored to welcome Denys Arcand to our festival.
250 movies
The program of the 12th FCVQ – the first to be put together with its new director general, the filmmaker Hugo Latulippe – brings together 250 films of all formats, half of which are from Quebec. The screenings will take place at eight different locations, namely the Diamant, the Palais Montcalm, the Drague, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Beaumont Cinema, the Ninkasi and the Place D’Youville.
Among the news we would like to highlight the presentation of Ma citéé évincée, a shocking documentary film by Priscilla Piccoli and Laurence Turcotte-Fraser dealing with the real estate crisis. Les jours, a documentary film by director Geneviève Dulude-De Celles (A Colony) recounting a young woman’s battle with breast cancer, and Symphonie Pathétique, a comedy series by Daphnée Côté-Hallé and Lysandre Ménard, will also be screened during the festival .
A Jean Marc Vallée Prize
The new Jean-Marc Vallée Audience Award, named after the late Quebec filmmaker, will be inaugurated during the 12th edition of the festival. The screenings of his films CRAZY and Wild are held at Place D’Youville and Le Diamant, respectively, in the presence of several of the director’s relatives and collaborators, including his son Alex Vallée, actress Danielle Proulx and cinematographer Yves Bélanger.
Also note the return of free outdoor screenings at Place D’Youville after a four-year hiatus. More than thirty films will be shown there during the festival from September 13th to 17th. In particular, we can see the musical Grease in a karaoke version, with the lyrics on the screen.
As the guest of honor at the festival this year, the actress Christine Beaulieu will offer a master class under the direction of Hugo Latulippe.
