A video game based on the 1974 horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has been called one of the scariest games of all time.
The online multiplayer game is so brutally violent and terrifying that many players were too scared to even complete their first game.
“The new Texas Chainsaw Massacre game is freaking scary,” one player wrote, while another exclaimed, “This is bloody scary!”
In the game, players have the choice to control one of four innocent victims who must work together to escape from the chainsaw-wielding Leatherface and his crazed family of serial killers.
Players begin chained in the family’s labyrinthine basement, littered with body parts and torture devices.

Players can either control a family of assassins – including the title character Leatherface – or play as innocent victims who must escape from sneaky assassins
Leatherface is also down in the basement and is tasked with chasing down the victims before they find a lock pick that they can use to open the door and run upstairs to the main house.
Once they enter the house, they must find various tools to open one of the four different escape exits on the property before finally escaping.
Victims are unable to fight back, so they must rely on stealth, speed, and cunning to plan their escape.
Alternatively, players can slip into the role of the murderous family.

Leatherface and his family of redneck killers, which includes a woman named Sissy, who was a member of the notorious Manson crime family, must hunt down victims
As Leatherface or one of his fellow assassins, players must secure the estate and hunt down the victims before they can escape.
They have a variety of brutal weapons and gadgets at their disposal, from chainsaws and machetes to traps and padlocks.
Some of the killing scenes are frighteningly gruesome and involve squeezing a rolling pin into a victim’s chest or banging a victim’s face on the edge of an active chainsaw.
The killers are all based on characters from the original 1974 film, such as the deranged hitchhiker and family patriarch Drayton Sawyer – also known as “The Cook”.
There are also two new original killer characters, including a bloodthirsty woman named Sissy, who was a member of Charles Manson’s cult before joining the Leatherface family.
Video game critics called it “one of the scariest games” they’ve ever played
Streamers on YouTube and Twitch have likened the game to a horror movie
“The new Texas Chainsaw Massacre game is freaking scary,” one player wrote, while another exclaimed, “This is bloody scary!”
The game developers have faithfully recreated the locations featured in the film, from the abandoned farmhouse to the spooky gas station, and even included sound effects of the same model chainsaw used in the film.
Kim Henkel, co-writer of the original 1974 film, helped develop the game.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre is an online multiplayer game only, with each character controlled by a different player.
Although some fans complained that the game was full of bugs and issues like framerate drops, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has been a huge hit since its release last week.
It reached more than a million players in the first 24 hours and racked up over 25 million plays within a few days.

Despite some technical hiccups, many critics have praised it: Gamespot calls it “one of the scariest games we’ve ever played”.
The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre film grossed over $30 million at the box office, against a budget of around $140,000, and became an instant hit – despite being blown in several countries due to complaints about its brutality was banned.
Since then it has been considered one of the most influential horror films of all time and is credited with spawning several elements that are now common in the slasher genre.
This resulted in a massive franchise that continued Leatherface’s story through nine more films, including prequels, remakes, and spin-offs.
