A small West Australian band have said they are not interested in bidding for a chance to support Coldplay at their concerts Down Under.

Coldplay, arguably one of the biggest bands in the world, will play two shows at Perth’s Optus Stadium in November, with up to 120,000 fans expected on both nights.

The British band launched a $15,000 competition on Monday to select the best musical act in WA to open their two shows.

Coldplay will personally select the winner from a list of finalists prepared by industry experts.

But one local rock band, The Southern River Band, has openly proclaimed that they have better things to do.

“We got tagged a lot in this (competition) today, I really appreciate you guys bringing us forward but um, it’s pretty busy right now,” frontman Callum Kramer said in a video posted to the Instagram of the group has been shared.

“I don’t know if we’re going to be able to do that.” If it was ACDC or the Foo Fighters or something, then yes, damn oath, then we could probably do that.

“But at the moment for Coldplay, um yeah we’re fine, thanks.”

The Southern River Band has just over 10,000 followers on Instagram, with some fans applauding the group for their decision as both groups have very different sounds.

“I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks Coldplay is overrated,” said one fan.

“In a good mood way too rockin’ stick to your guns!” commented another.

But others said the band was stupid to let such a big opportunity pass them by.

“That’s a stupid move,” said one.

“I think they should take it. “Any exposure is a good exposure,” said another.

“You will regret this,” wrote one.

Coldplay previously announced they would be bringing their Music of the Spheres World Tour to Perth in November for a special performance.

The popular group last performed in Australia in 2016 and the concerts will be their first in the Washington capital since February 2009.

The Perth shows will be the band’s only concerts in Australia.
