The Rebel Moon trailer introduces an epic sci-fi fantasy as the second installment in Zack Snyder’s 20-year production gets its Netflix release date
Netflix has released the first teaser for its upcoming two-part sci-fi epic Rebel Moon, directed by Zack Snyder.
The first chapter, A Child Of Fire, was scheduled to be released on December 22, 2023, while part two, The Scargiver, is now also on the calendar and is scheduled to be released on the platform on April 19, 2024.
If you think April 2024 is still a long way off, then the wait has nothing to do with the director’s 20 years working on the idea.
The trailer for the two-parter introduces the “star-trot epic” centered around Sofia Boutella’s character Kora – “a lone wolf soldier who has found community and connection on the quiet farmer’s moon of Veldt.”
Netflix’s synopsis goes on to say that Kora is a former combatant of the film’s interstellar empire, which appears on the moon and sparks “a struggle between brutality and harmony.”
The first trailer for Scargiver: Rebel Moon has been released by Netflix, with the dates for both parts now also known as December 22, 2023 and April 19, 2023
Legend: Zack Snyder (pictured) has been working on Rebel Moon for about 20 years, during which time he has directed numerous hit films
With the contrast between life on and off the moon, the trailer also demonstrates the range of scenes and locations we’ll encounter in Rebel Moon, with natural calm on Veldt and clinical chaos elsewhere.
That complexity might, in a way, explain why Snyder took so long to nail the idea, telling Netflix, “I’ve been working on this idea for this movie, Rebel Moon, for about 20 years.”
During that time he has directed numerous DC films including The Flash, Wonder Woman and Man Of Steel.
His cast for this latest project includes Anthony Hopkins as the voice of a robot named Jimmy and Deadpool’s Ed Skrein as the sadistic Admiral Atticus Noble.
Rebel Moon is the latest collaboration between Snyder and Netflix, following his 2021 feature film Army Of The Dead.
That bodes well for the new project, as the film was watched by 72 million households in its first four weeks, according to the streaming platform.
He also wrote Army Of Thieves, the pre-release of the above original for Netflix, and is working on a sequel and an anime spinoff series.
