Alexis Lafrenière finally agrees with Rangers

Forward Alexis Lafrenière finally agreed with the New York Rangers on Wednesday.

The Quebecer, who has been a restricted free agent since July 1, signed a two-year deal that averages him $2.325 million a year.

The first pick of the 2020 draft ended his rookie contract in 2022-23. Lafreniere also had his best season at Bettman Circuit, amassing 16 goals and 23 assists for 39 points in 81 games.

The Saint-Eustache native has been limited to a supporting role since joining the Blueshirts. Since joining the National Hockey League (NHL), he has averaged 14:25 minutes per game on the ice.

“He’s a great young player and we think his best days are still ahead of him,” Rangers general manager Chris Drury said last July. We are delighted to have him on our team and hope he will remain a ranger for a very long time.

During his NHL career, Lafreniere hit 47 goals and provided 44 assists for 91 points in 216 games.
