September 8th will be the first anniversary of the death of Elizabeth II. The death of Britain’s longest-serving and most beloved Queen at the age of 96 shocked her country and much of the world as her official farewell became the largest state funeral of the 21st century. The act brought together the entire British royal family. Their four children and eight grandchildren, including Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, attended despite their strained relationship with members of the Crown after they stepped down from royal duties and relocated to the United States to escape the Windsors in 2020. As luck would have it, the Duke of Sussex returns to the UK a year later on exactly a day as significant as the anniversary of his grandmother’s death. But this time, no family reunification is planned.
Harry, 38, from England, will fly to London from California on September 7 to attend WellChild’s annual awards ceremony, a charity for seriously ill children and young people. He has been a patron of WellChild for 15 years and in fact it is one of the few organizations from his days as working king that he still maintains a commitment to. “I am honored to attend this year’s awards ceremony and celebrate their incredible work,” he said in a statement on Wednesday, August 23. Meghan (Los Angeles, 42) accompanied him to the 2018 and 2019 awards ceremonies but will not be accompanying him on this occasion – last year they had also planned to attend together but Elizabeth II’s serious health condition changed their plans. As in previous editions, Harry from England will spend time with each winner and their families at a pre-ceremony reception, listening to their stories and helping to create what the charity calls “lifelong memories”. He will then attend the ceremony, present the Inspirational Child Award (ages four to six) and give a speech.

Who he won’t meet during his stay in the British capital is his father, King Charles III, or his brother, Prince William. A meeting with another member of the British royal family is also not planned. At the very least, neither Archewell, the Harry and Meghan Foundation nor Buckingham Palace have mentioned any sort of family reunion to mark the first anniversary of Elizabeth II’s death the next day. In contrast to the worldwide outbursts of mourning and multi-day state events marking the death of the monarch last year, no public or private family events are planned in honor of the monarch this year. The only thing expected is that the Prince and Princess of Wales – William and Kate Middleton – will deliver a message in honor of Queen Elizabeth’s life and legacy.
New Kings Charles and Camilla are expected to spend 8 September as a day of private reflection this summer as they continue Elizabeth II’s tradition of spending the holidays at Balmoral Castle, although they normally reside at Birkhall, his private residence the property, sleep . Prince Andrew is also expected to make an appearance at some point at the Scottish residence where his two daughters are already staying. However, it is not yet known whether other members of the royal family will visit the castle.
After staying in London and avoiding Scotland, the Duke of Sussex will then fly to Dusseldorf, Germany for the Invictus Games, which he co-founded to help wounded soldiers and war veterans, starting on September 9th. This competition – the leitmotif of the next documentary Enrique will star in on Netflix, which premieres August 30 – was the setting the current king’s son chose to introduce his then-girlfriend Meghan Markle. According to the German newspaper “Rheinische Post”, his current wife and mother of his two children will also be present as a moderator at the closing ceremony of this new edition. If so, it would be the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first appearance together since May 16 last year, when they attended a Ms. Foundation For Women gala and subsequently denounced “a near-disastrous chase” by the paparazzi on the streets of New York.

You still have to go back to find out when Henry of England was last seen with his father and older brother, the heir to the British throne. The three last met at the King’s coronation on May 6, but Prince Harry flew to California immediately after leaving the service at Westminster Abbey, missing much of the weekend’s celebrations and also disappearing from the official photo he was attending showed that day. Meghan didn’t even attend the coronation.
The last time the brothers were photographed together, and accompanied by their wives, was during a walk outside Windsor Castle after the Queen’s death in September 2022. It was the first time the four had posed together in two and a half years. A year later, with tensions between brothers rising with the premiere of the documentaries Enrique & Meghan and the release of En la sombra, the book containing Enrique’s memoirs, it seems impossible for this picture to be repeated becomes future. Further.
