Meriwether Sheriff Chuck Smith said officers met with immediate family and notified them that Fowler’s death had been confirmed.
“While the outcome of Olivia Samantha Fowler’s disappearance is not what the family or law enforcement wanted, this investigation remains active and ongoing,” he said.
Smith claimed there was still “a lot of evidence that needs to be analyzed and processed,” but didn’t reveal how she died or if it happened under suspicious circumstances.
The case was moved from a missing persons case to a death investigation.
Relatives said Fowler disappeared after seeing a man she was dating.
Her aunt Tamara McCoy previously said, “Olivia loves family — loves, loves, loves her family.”
“She’s an amazing mom with the biggest heart.”
The FBI joined the case in May 2022 before investigators received a tip and found her remains in a rural area of the county in December.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime scene unit helped recover her body, clear up the crime scene, and perform an autopsy.
Fowler’s aunt put together a search party called “Olivia’s Army” to find her
Authorities sent a DNA sample to the FBI’s crime lab, which confirmed the remains were those of Fowler.
Sheriff Smith said: “The family is asking that they be given appropriate sorrow at this latest news and support at this difficult time.”
“The family wants the public to know that Olivia was not only a mother, but also a daughter, sister, grandchild and an important member of the Fowler family.”
Fowler’s aunt put together a search party called “Olivia’s Army” to find her.
Her family also raised money to hire a private investigator by setting up car washes and holding fundraisers.
