Jamie Foxx is determined not to slow down his film career as he continues to recover from a mysterious illness that kept him in hospital for months.
Insiders close to the Ray actor say the 55-year-old is back to working harder than ever, despite still recovering from an undisclosed illness after being hospitalized in April.
“Jamie remains focused on his film career as he continues on his road to recovery,” a source told .
And as part of this realignment, Foxx currently has a whopping nine films in various stages of production.
The insider adds that Foxx sees staying busy at work as the key to his continued recovery.
Working his way back up: An insider tells that after a health struggle, Jamie Foxx is focused on getting back to work as he tries at 55 to regain his status as a top leading actor with an impressive nine films in the pipeline; seen in LA in August 2022
On the mend: “He’s still doing outpatient rehab and working on his health, but the busier he is the better — he doesn’t want to rest for too long,” the insider said
“He’s still doing outpatient rehab and working on his health, but the busier he is the better — he doesn’t want to rest for too long,” they said.
Still, he takes the time to focus on consistent training to strengthen his body for the future.
“In addition to playing pickleball with his friends, Jamie has been exercising regularly at home and it’s been improving every day,” they continued.
“He’s really looking forward to continuing filming on his various projects.6”
It was announced Thursday that he will play the role of Go opposite Mickey Rourke as The Devil in the comedy Not Another Church Movie, which was filmed ahead of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
In early August, the Oscar winner looked like the epitome of health when he was spotted playing pickleball with Olympic volleyball star Casey Patterson.
But now that he’s focused on strengthening his body, Foxx can’t wait to get back on set to do what he does best.
“He was keen to get back to work and has a long list of projects in the pipeline that he wants to complete.” “He doesn’t want to let his fans down,” the insider added.
Below, takes a look at Foxx’s most recently announced film project, as well as older projects that have been in the pipeline for some time.
Jamie prepares for one of his biggest roles – as God
New Movie: Deadline revealed Thursday that Jamie is playing Gott in upcoming comedy Not Another Church Movie; seen in London in February
Old school: Mickey Rourke has already been announced as playing the devil in the film; to be seen in West Hollywood in June 2022
Deadline announced on Thursday that Jamie will be starring in the upcoming comedy Not Another Church Movie.
Foxx will have big shoes to fill as he will appear as God in the religious comedy.
So far, it’s unclear if the film is the kind of full-on parody the title suggests, as it’s in line with other raunchy Not Another… movies that span specific genres and franchises make fun of, but which rarely feature actors of Jamie’s stature.
He will be working with another acclaimed actor, Mickey Rourke, who was previously announced to play the devil in the film.
Foxx, who was seen happy and healthy on a date with his girlfriend on Wednesday, has already filmed his role, although his participation in the film has only just been announced.
Production on the film wrapped before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA’s ongoing strikes against major studios and streamers began, presumably meaning Jamie filmed his role before his health crisis.
The advanced stage of production will allow the release to be headed for sometime between October and December of this year.
According to IMDb, Not Another Church Movie was written by Johnny Mack and directed by him and James Michael Cummings.
Actor Kevin Daniels, best known for the short-lived series Sirens, stars as Taylor Pharry, whose name bears a striking resemblance to Tyler Perry.
Taking Time: The film was completed before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, although Jamie’s participation is only now being reported; seen in LA in 2014
Good and Evil: Kevin Daniels stars as a man trying to tell the story of his family and community as God and the devil fight over him. New Girl’s Vivica A. Fox and Lamorne Morris also star; Fox was seen in Beverly Hills on August 4th
According to the official synopsis, he is “an ambitious young man who has been given a sacred mission by God Himself: to tell the stories of his family and to inspire his community.”
However, it’s the same family and community that could also get in the way of the good work he’s trying to do.
To make matters worse, the devil (Rourke) lurks behind the scenes, hoping to distract him.
Rourke enjoyed a career revival in the 2000s, with high-profile roles in Sin City (2005), The Informers (2008), Iron Man 2 and the first Expendables film (both 2010), while The Wrestler (2008) earned him a few of them best reviews of his career and an Oscar nomination.
Not Another Church Movie also features supporting casts from Vivica A. Fox and New Girl actor Lamorne Morris.
According to Deadline, James Michael Cummings and former Warner Bros. executive Jim Cardwell are on-site as producers. Valerie McCaffrey will be executive producer.
“We are thrilled that Mr. Foxx is a part of this hilarious comedy and brings his incredible talent to the role of the god. Working with Foxx and Johnny Mack has been a true blessing,” Cummings said in a statement to the publication. “This film is a unique blend of new and established talent and we can’t wait to hear the laughs and show audiences the magic that happens on the big screen.” “This film will not disappoint.”
McCaffrey added, “The well-known talent brought together for this entertaining comedy is unprecedented.” You can see that all the actors are enjoying themselves, especially Foxx who plays God.”
Foxx teams up with Tommy Lee Jones in a legal thriller
Legal drama: Jamie plays real-life attorney Willie E. Gary in The Burial, while Tommy Lee Jones plays bankrupt undertaker Jerry O’Keefe. The film is based on a 1999 New Yorker article about Gary helping Jones’ bankrupt funeral home sue a larger funeral home
Of the other eight films Foxx has in the pipeline, The Burial appears to be the most advanced.
He plays the role of real-life attorney Willie E. Gary in the film.
A 1999 New Yorker article of the same name by Jonathan Harr recounts how Gary, a personal injury attorney, hired bankrupt funeral home owner Jerry O’Keefe (played by Tommy Lee Jones) as a client.
He helped O’Keefe sue the Loewen funeral home, which had hurt O’Keefe’s business with a contract dispute.
Gary obtained a $500 million judgment against Loewen and helped bankrupt the funeral home.
Jones joined the cast after Harrison Ford was initially considered for the role.
One that probably won’t see the light of day: All-Star Weekend
Shelved: Foxx’s All-Star Weekend was filmed in 2016 but may never see the light of day, allegedly due to offensive scenes involving Robert Downey Jr. playing a Mexican; seen in Dallas in August 2022
Foxx’s other completed film is All-Star Weekend, which was filmed back in 2016.
The film’s cast members include LeBron James, Jeremy Piven, Eva Longoria, Robert Downey Jr., Ken Jeong, Gerard Butler, Benicio del Toro, DJ Khaled, French Montana, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Snoop Dogg.
Foxx and Piven play truck drivers and friends who win tickets to an NBA All-Star Game.
However, the film was shelved indefinitely in 2022 after going unreleased for years, allegedly due to offensive parts of the film.
Downey’s role in particular is considered unsolvable as he plays a Mexican and possibly uses offensive stereotypes to add some humor to the film.
Jamie convinces his girlfriend Cameron Diaz to make her acting comeback before health problems arise
Moving on: Jamie convinced his girlfriend Cameron Diaz to return to acting with the action comedy Back In Action. However, the film ended when he was hospitalized due to a medical emergency and he had eight days of shooting left
That’s it: Filming has resumed with Cameron and several of his body doubles and is reportedly currently in post-production. pictured in Miami in October 2022
Foxx’ film “Back In Action” is already in post-production after completion in April 2023.
The action comedy marks the return of his friend Cameron Diaz to the big screen after years away from Hollywood.
However, Jamie had to stop work on the film as he still had eight days to recover from an unsolved medical emergency.
However, the film went on without him and instead used multiple body doubles to complete the scenes with the actress.
It’s unclear if Foxx will ever return to film more scenes or if the film was cut unchanged.
Jamie stars alongside Anthony Mackie in the Johnnie Cochran biopic Signal Hill.
Real Life: Jamie has also wrapped up filming on the biopic Signal Hill, but the film is still in post-production. Anthony Mackie plays the younger Cochran, best known for representing OJ Simpson at his 1995 murder trial, at which he was eventually acquitted; seen in August 2022
Reunited: Foxx plays Black Panther leader Elmer “Geronimo” Pratt, who was convicted of murder in 1968 but released 27 years later thanks to Cochran. Directed by Taylor Hackford, who helped Foxx win his Oscar in Ray; seen in London in February
Jamie has also finished filming the biopic Signal Hill, but the film is still in post-production.
Anthony Mackie plays the younger Cochran, best known for representing OJ Simpson in his 1995 murder trial where he was eventually acquitted.
The film appears to focus on his 1981 case of the wrongful death of college football star Ron Settles.
Settles was arrested and then found dead in prison, apparently hanged. Signal Hill police later claimed he was so despondent about the arrest that he took his own life, but Cochran convinced the family to have his body exhumed and a subsequent autopsy revealed that Settles had been strangled.
Cochran won the family a $1 million judgment.
Foxx stars in the film as Black Panther leader Elmer “Geronimo” Pratt. Cochran helped vacate his conviction for a 1968 murder and secured his release in 1997 along with $4.5 million in damages.
The film is directed by Taylor Hackford, who led Foxx to his first – and only – Oscar win with Ray.
Movies in limbo
Although Foxx has several films that are already in the pipeline or that he has already completed filming, there are also several films and shows with less clear status. It’s unclear if they’re all still in the works
Although Foxx has several films that are already in the pipeline or that he has already completed filming, there are also several films and shows with less clear status.
Some of these may have been ousted, while others may have seen significant cast or creative team changes since initial coverage years ago.
Tin Soldier stars Foxx, a shadowy character named Bokushi who, according to the official synopsis, offers a program for US combat veterans looking for their “goal” and way forward.
However, the government soon becomes concerned about the growing strength of his cult-like squad of ex-military personnel.
Little is known about the Brad Furman-directed film, but filming reportedly took place in Greece in the summer of 2022.
Little is also known about Jamie’s animated film Groove Tails, which is said to be in production and which will star Dave Bautista.
It depicts a world of competitive street dancing among mice, and in addition to producing, Foxx provides one of the lead voices.
Foxx will return to screens as another real-life character in the biopic Tyson, which is reportedly in development: legendary and controversial boxer Mike Tyson.
The project is reportedly a limited series directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Raging Bull director Martin Scorsese.
However, Tyson has objected in his comments to Foxx playing him in early scenes as a rising star in his 20s, and it’s unclear if he’s still associated with the project.
Finally, Jamie is reportedly set to star alongside Michael Fassbender and Peter Dinklage in a remake of the blood-soaked 1969 western classic The Wild Bunch, directed by Sam Peckinpah.
In or out? Mike Tyson had previously made comments implying that Foxx would no longer be playing him in the biopic miniseries Tyson, but nothing has been confirmed so far
The original film was praised for its attention-grabbing style and beautiful, yet gory, slow-motion gunplay.
According to Deadline, Mel Gibson has been directing since 2019, though it’s unclear if he’s still part of the project, and the film’s IMDb page doesn’t list a director.
Also, there have been no updates on the film since 2019, raising the question of whether it will ever be filmed.
Regardless, Foxx has more than enough films completed or in the works to make him a permanent presence on screens in the next year or two.
