The Edmonton Elks finally won a home game, their first in 23 games.

On Sunday night, the Alberta club defeated the Ottawa Redblacks 30-20 at Commonwealth Stadium. It was the first time since October 12, 2019 that Elks fans saw their favorite win on their country exactly 1415 days ago.

This ends the longest drought experienced by a North American professional sports team on home soil. The Edmonton organization set a mediocre record at home with 22 consecutive losses.

To finally get out of there, the Elks took advantage of a Tre Ford who was in full possession of his abilities. The Canadian quarterback completed 15 of 18 attempted passes for 317 yards and a touchdown. He also put up 65 yards and a major with his legs.

Former Montreal Alouettes Eugene Lewis also had a say in the win. The wide receiver put his hands on three balls for 112 yards and a touchdown.

The Elks, who now stand between 2 and 9 in 2023, return to action Monday, September 4 when they visit the Stampeders in Calgary. Their next home game is the following Saturday against the same Stampeders.
