A person driving a pickup truck crashed into an RV in North Lauderdale, injuring a young girl sleeping inside.
The impact happened around 4:30 a.m. near Northwest 44th Avenue and 57th Street this Sunday while a family slept in the home, Local 10 News reported.
“Everyone heard a loud crash, that was the truck,” said Carlos Miron, who was sleeping when it happened. “Personally, I woke up to my mother screaming.”
First responders from the Broward Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene of the accident and found the van embedded in the RV.
“My sister is sleeping right in the corner where the truck crashed. The truck took up the whole bed and she ended up in the kitchen,” the man said.
His sister was taken to a local hospital but has since returned home with mild back pain.
“We’re all fine, the most important thing is that my sister is fine and that’s the only thing that really matters to me,” Miron said.
At sunrise, the tow truck towed the vehicle and exposed the damage to the home.
The RV has a huge hole just below the bedroom window and the corner is chipped.
It’s unclear what caused the accident and authorities have not said if the driver will be charged with a crime.
The American Red Cross is helping the family find housing.
