Wagner will continue to develop like a large company that loses its founder. This is predicted by the director of “Analisi Difesa”, Gianandrea Gaiani, in an interview with RSI TV News. “The wagner of the future will be much more controlled by Moscow, but at the same time will return to his origins, into obscurity. The Kremlin will always be able to say: It’s not us, we don’t know them.”
Wagner has often worked in secret and undercover, beginning the fighting long before Moscow deploys its regular troops, which sometimes doesn’t even happen. In Syria, it sided with the Assad regime long before Moscow decided in 2015 to deploy a contingent of its regular armed forces.
Africa will remain a key sector because – Gaiani continues – “All of sub-Saharan Africa shows a growing intolerance towards Westerners, starting with the former French colonial power.” African countries would have liked to see other European countries play a role, but that has not happened, Europe has not proved itself capable. Russia has succeeded: its presence often supports local powers without demanding a change in constitutional structure.”
