The 2023 Streamy Awards honored the best in social media content creation and Dylan Mulvaney accepted the trophy for Breakout Creator.
“I’m really shocked because I thought the only award I would ever win might be a Tony Award, but now I’m a musical theater girl with a streamy,” the social media star said when he accepted her award at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.
Mulvaney went viral after receiving backlash from conservative media for promoting Bud Light.
“532 days ago I shot a coming out video that became my series ‘Days of Girlhood,’ and my life has changed for the better,” she continued. “But on the other hand, there was also an extreme level of transphobia and hatred, and I know my community feels that.”
Mulvaney ended her speech with a nod to the controversy, saying, “I’m going for a beer and I love you.”
MrBeast won Creator of the Year, while Michelle Khare won Show of the Year for Challenge Accepted. Other notable winners included Dream, Nick DiGiovanni, and Leo González.
