Child falls on 5th floor in Italy passerby catches him

Italy has a new national hero: Mattia Aguzzi (37) is considered a three-year-old girl in Turin Italian media unanimously reported that they had saved their lives. Aguzzi was on his way to the bakery with his girlfriend on Saturday morning when suddenly they heard screams. Neighbors are said to have seen a child leaning on the railing of a fifth-story balcony.

“The girl kept leaning and climbing on the ledge, she just held on with her arms and legs up”, describes Aguzzi the situation. He stopped in front of the house; Seconds later, the child would have fallen from the balcony.

“Infinite Seconds”

“I was hoping everything would go well,” says Aguzzi: And: “I practically broke my fall with my chest and we both hit the ground.” At first the girl showed no sign of life. Aguzzi speaks of “endless seconds” before the child starts to cry.

The three-year-old’s parents would have taken to the streets when they realized what had happened. The child was later taken to hospital and is in good general condition, with no obvious injuries, according to Corriere della Sera. Today, Monday, should already be released. Aguzzi was also examined at the hospital, he said.

A medal shall be awarded to the savior

Aguzzi, a bank teller, says: “I don’t believe in fate, but I would never have stopped by if my cousin hadn’t called me to ask for bread for him.” The mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo, announced that he would propose Aguzzi to the City Council for awarding the Order of Civil Merit “in recognition of his courageous and invaluable gesture”.

Camilla Laureti, Member of the European Parliament, proposed on X (Twitter) that the savior receive “the gold medal for civic bravery”. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also paid tribute to Aguzzi’s courage: The story “could have turned into a tragedy. But thanks to the speed of Mattia Aguzzi, who saw her fall and caught her in the air, her life was saved. Much honor and thanks to this young hero.”
