(ANSA-AFP) — GUATEMALA, AUGUST 28 — Guatemalan President-elect Bernardo Arévalo has called “illegal” the Supreme Electoral Court’s temporary suspension of his Semilla party, ordered by a judge at the request of prosecutors. The Socialist President made it clear that the judge’s order was “completely unlawful” and that the court’s decision merely “respected” that order. “A process of political persecution is underway, illegally using the instruments of the judiciary and judicial institutions against the Semilla movement and our candidacy,” said the President.
