The Colombian President speaks to the National Union Council

According to the presidency, Petro explained how he aims to industrialize Colombia through the introduction of a decarbonized economy to advance the transition to clean energy, electric mobility and zero-carbon production.

The Head of State noted that a national agreement must be reached sincerely and includes, among other things, the availability of cheap electrical energy as a driver of development; achieve lower interest rates and democratize the country.

In conclusion, it is necessary to confront social inequality and be more fair, said the President before this permanent consultative forum, made up of the most representative unions from the industrial, construction, mining-energy, infrastructure, services, technology, agriculture, finance and Tourism composed and commercial.

During the meeting at the Casa de Nariño, the headquarters of the Presidency, the Minister of Labor, Gloria Inés Ramírez, specified that the National Agreement must be in line with the National Development Plan “Colombia, World Power of Life”, since this is the law of the State Republic.

As an example, he cited the collaboration between the public and private sectors in the energy transition and the search for alternatives so that “Colombia can also move forward in the legal approach”.

At the meeting, participants also discussed the labor reform proposal, on which Ramírez said it was moving forward, dialogue would continue and there would be open debates in Congress.

“We are open, we will have work tables that will allow us to effectively further strengthen labor reform. “It’s not the time for disqualification, it’s the time to make suggestions and move forward,” the minister stressed.

Last Thursday, Ramírez submitted to the Secretariat of the House of Representatives of the bicameral Congress the new text of the labor reform project, which includes, among other things, adjustments from the analysis of workers, union organizations and business people.

“Once again, the government of President Gustavo Petro presents to the Congress of the Republic a text on labor reform that respects and welcomes the diversity of proposals made by the business community and workers’ organizations in the previous legislative period,” the minister said in submitting the opinion Project.

The initiative presented in the last legislative period, which insists on restoring and guaranteeing workers’ rights, failed in the debate because there were no opposition lawmakers.
