Some of the gas stations that the state initially reported as potentially receiving contaminated gas have since been cleared, while two new gas stations were added to the list of those affected.
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services announced this on Sunday more than two dozen Citgo gas stations across the state may have received contaminated gas mixed with diesel fuel, which could damage or disable engines. On Tuesday, the agency said six gas stations had not received the contaminated fuel eight additional stations were inspected, renovated and cleared. Seventeen stations had ordered a “sales stop” by the state.
Rogers Petroleum, 134 N Desoto Ave. in Arcadia, was added to the state’s most recent list and remains under a sales ban as of Tuesday.
The state was also re-identified PJI LLC, at 7977 W Dunnellon Road in Dunnellon, as affected. At PJI, regular and premium fuel were not contaminated, only diesel fuel, said the state. The state said the gas station had already been inspected and cleared for fuel sales.
Aaron Keller, a spokesman for the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, said Citgo provided the department with an update that included the two stations, which is why they were not previously listed.
Customers who purchased gasoline after 10 a.m. on Saturday may be affected. (The updated list of channels can be found at the end of this story.)
Citgo told the Tampa Bay Times on Monday that contaminated gas was discovered at the Port Tampa Bay terminal on Saturday due to a “product routing issue” and ordered a shutdown of the fuel “rack,” or pipeline, that mixed the diesel fuel with gasoline. the company said It is conducting a “full investigation” but has not yet released details of the investigation.

“It’s never a good thing to see such a catastrophic failure for consumers, especially at a time when Floridians are fleeing a potentially dangerous storm,” Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson said in a statement Tuesday, referring to the hurricane Idalia. “I firmly believe that our department was able to mitigate the worse situation. We stand ready to help those whose vehicles and equipment have been affected by contaminated fuel.”
