They set up an office in Miami Dade to apply for an American passport. Will the process take less time? Cuban directory

Authorities in Miami-Dade County, Florida, have opened a new office for applying for an American passport. The location is at the West Kendall Regional Library, 10201 Hammocks Blvd., Miami. As is known, the online renewal service is currently not activated. Additionally, U.S. passports can only be renewed after being returned by mail. With this local variant you can request a completely new document. It is a viable option and is close to the thousands of potential applicants who reside in the aforementioned South Florida County.

With the opening of this office at the West Kendall Regional Library, many are wondering if wait times will be shorter. It is still too early to offer a criterion on this issue, but that is precisely the main idea: to reduce the delay in procedures.

To date, there continues to be a backlog in applications for an American passport. The processing time is between 10 and 13 weeks, not including the delivery time.

The State Department gives libraries the green light

Among the establishments the Department of State (DOS) accepts for applying for or renewing passports are public libraries. The same thing happens at certain post offices, court clerks and other government buildings.

There are now three public libraries in Miami-Dade County that offer this passport service. All are located in different areas of South Florida. One of these is the North Dade Regional Library at 2455 NW and 183rd Street. The other is the South Dade Regional Center at 10750 SW and 211th Street.

Library staff are responsible for providing these services. All those involved have received detailed training and are approved by the DOS to carry out the procedures. In short, it’s an option close to Miami-Dade residents and should reduce wait times. This final office began processing on August 18th.
