Greg Ellingson is finally ready to make his Alouettes debut

Barring a reversal, veteran pass catcher Greg Ellingson will finally play his first game in the Alouettes jersey when visiting the British Columbia Lions on Saturday night.

The big news was confirmed by head coach Jason Maas after Thursday’s training session, which saw Ellingson participate in numerous rehearsals with the regulars.

The 34-year-old, who previously played for Ottawa, Edmonton and Winnipeg in the Canadian Football League (CFL), should be one of quarterback Cody Fajardo’s main targets for the 2023 season. However, a lower body injury has prevented him from helping the Alouettes so far.

In 86 career games in the CFL, Ellingson has scored around 30 touchdowns. He particularly stood out in 2017 with the Ottawa Rouge et Noir, with 12 majors and 1,459 passing yards in 18 games.

Although injuries have slowed him down in recent years, the veteran could make a big contribution to offense given his wealth of experience.

Concussion for Mack?

Rookie Austin Mack, still among the receivers, practiced wearing a red jersey, indicating to his teammates to avoid contact. As he is believed to be recovering from a concussion, he should normally be able to face the Lions after passing the required tests.

On defense, Ciante Evans will return to the game.
