According to media reports, Ukraine attacked the military part of an airport in the Russian border region of Kursk with a new type of drone a few days ago.
A total of 16 missiles made of cardboard, considered difficult to locate by anti-aircraft radars, were used last Sunday night, Ukrainian media reported yesterday (local time), citing SBU secret service sources.
Five Russian fighters and several anti-aircraft systems were reportedly damaged in Kursk. This could not initially be independently verified.
Russia confirmed defensive fire
Russian authorities have previously confirmed anti-aircraft fire on enemy drones, but have not provided any information about damage to aircraft and other military technology. Satellite images from Monday showed no clearly visible destruction.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy estimated the number of fighter jets his country needs to be able to further repel the Russian occupiers. Accordingly, about 100 more combat aircraft are needed in addition to the promises already made.
