Together with investor Neufeld Immobilien, the Stuttgart planning office Blocher Partners developed an architectural concept to transform the aging woolen house. © blocher partners

Instead of demolition and new construction, the building will be transformed into a neighborhood with positive energy. A photovoltaic system on the roof reduces the building’s energy needs during operation. Gray energy is maintained in the existing building; the three-story addition is made using a hybrid wood structure.

The concept also takes advantage of the advantages of modular construction: the maximum degree of prefabrication guarantees the shortest possible construction time, reduces noise pollution on the construction site and increases efficiency. The project is currently in the design phase. Construction could begin in 2026 and opening is scheduled for 2028.
