After several years away from the stage, Beyoncé has returned to tour the world with Renaissance. A return that, as it could not be otherwise with Queen B, depends to a large extent on the scenography and of course on the artist’s wardrobe. The latter is the work of a trio of stylists: Shiona Turini, KJ Moody and Julia Sarr-Jamois. Together and in collaboration with major brands who rush to prepare exclusive designs for the diva, they have created a costume show that is constantly evolving. She opened the season in Sweden with a custom Alexander McQueen jumpsuit covered in sequins and appliqués in all sorts of sheen, and continued with designs from Gucci, Loewe, Fendi, Balmain, Ferragamo, Off-White, Carolina Herrera. Ralph Lauren… One of the last brands to take the stage with her? Prada.
It happened this week at her concert in Santa Clara, California, when Beyoncé performed in a sequined Prada bodysuit and Flame sandals. Both in a tailor-made version for you. For shoes, she opted for the black model with wedge heels and sequin trimmings. An iconic design with 11 years of history.
The flames on Prada shoes first appeared at a runway show in the spring-summer 2012 collection. This season, Miuccia Prada wanted to propose a review of the concept of “sweetness” and wondered why the industry was so dismissive of a quality that is usually It is generally considered valuable to femininity. Of course, the idea, passed through the Italian filter, led to something not at all obvious, namely a mixture of flowers, cars and flames. A collection that is still one of the designer’s most relevant.
Since then, the flame motif has become the emblem of the Milan house. So much so that there was no shortage of flames when Miuccia Prada became a co-star at the Met Gala just months after its inception in spring 2012. The designer, who was the subject of an exhibition at the Costume Institute in which she competed against her compatriot Elsa Schiaparelli, chose the miniature Flame sandal as one of the souvenirs of the exhibition.
After this collection was completed, the shoes became collector’s items in the following years and one of the most sought-after pieces for archive lovers. But the wheel of trends turns faster than ever, and so the model was reissued by the house itself in 2018. Of course, the new version has already been customized to make Instagram fall in love with it, launching in a variety of neon hues that stood out in everyone’s feed. From Kendall Jenner (repeatedly) to Ursula Corberó, Kylie Minogue or Katy Perry, there are many celebrities who always have Prada shoes in their closets.
