During the crossing, the dog lost its balance and fell on the rocky flank to the south.

Teamwork in the last light of day

The two women managed to climb down to the injured dog in difficult climbing conditions, secure it and protect it from cooling. They alerted emergency services via mobile phone and remained at the scene. Bavarian mountain rescue teams responded, including an experienced search dog handler from Chiemgau.

The crew of the police helicopter “Edelweiß 4” came from Munich. She dropped the rescue team with the steel cable winch into the mountainous forest above where the women and dog were.

Failure in home care

The mountain rescuers themselves rappelled down the last part. The dog received initial care and was packaged in a special harness that is used by mountain rescue dogs for external transport in helicopters.

In the last light of day, the police pilot and his air rescuer managed to get the climbers, their animals and the mountain rescue personnel aboard with the steel cable winch and bring them down the valley unharmed. The dog was taken to a veterinary clinic. She was released to home care later in the evening with minor injuries.
