In June 2023, the exports of this sector represented foreign exchange earnings of $66 million to the country.

“We are proud of the floriculture industry as it has managed to maintain a constant growth of 8-12% each year. This is because there are around 3,500 hectares of quality production. This beautiful country, Guatemala, has significant competitive advantages. Some of them and those that we would like to highlight most at the II Congress of Ornamental Plants, Foliage and Flowers are: excellent human resources, climate and quality, which allow the production of more than 500 species and more than 3,000 varieties,” he said José Cabarrús, Secretary of the AGEXPORT Commission for Ornamental Plants, Foliage and Flowers.

This second edition of the Flowers and Ornamental Plants Congress will take place from August 31st to September 1st in Santo Domingo del Cerro, Antigua Guatemala. An event organized by the Ornamental Plants, Foliage and Flowers Commission of AGEXPORT with the aim of uniting to improve the value chain of the floriculture industry and strengthen best practices in order to strategically position itself in various international markets. Currently, Cabarrus assures, Guatemala decorates countries such as the United States with its flowers and plants, 39 million US dollars; Netherlands, $16 million; El Salvador, $5 million; Canada; Honduras; Japan; Italy; Costa Rica; United Arab Emirates and Colombia.

To take advantage of this opening of markets, the focus of the II Congress of Ornamental Plants, Foliage and Flowers is on meeting well-known producers and exporters to promote the exchange of knowledge in areas such as sustainability, innovation, marketing and the latest trends in the ornamental plant industry. The main objective is to create an environment of learning and collaboration between the approximately 350 participants from all departments of the country, emphasized Cabarrús.

“As part of the II Congress of Ornamental Plants, Foliage and Flowers, we are focusing on building strategic connections to create a holistic ecosystem that encompasses everything from innovation, logistics to inputs and transportation.” This initiative is reflected in the Presence of 31 stands of inputs and service providers at our event, including products and services such as freight agencies, shipping companies, packaging and fertilizer companies, banks, agricultural inputs and others.
