A Ukrainian drone destroyed a Russian T-72B3 tank of the 2016 model. The combat vehicle was abandoned in the Luhansk region.
Here’s what we know
The tank was destroyed by an M67 grenade thrown by the drone directly into the open hatch. The operation was carried out by soldiers of the 25th Airborne Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The T-72B3 of the 2016 model received the Sosna-U and 1A40-4 sights, the R-168-25U-2 radio station, the 2A46M-5-01 cannon, the Kord anti-aircraft machine gun and the B-92C2F engine. The engine has an output of 1,130 hp.
The modernization brought additional dynamic protection modules to increase the resistance of the combat vehicle’s side projection to anti-tank projectiles. Dynamic defense modules and grilles are also installed on the tower.
The cost of modernizing the 2016 T72-B3 model is estimated at $1.2 million. According to Oryx analysts, Russia has lost more than 230 tanks of this type in a year and a half.
