Burkina Faso: Dozens of terrorist suspects killed news

The army in Burkina Faso, West Africa, claims to have killed more than 100 suspected terrorists. Islamist fighters were crushed during two operations yesterday in the north of the country, near the borders with Mali and Niger, the army said in a statement read on television today.

Security forces destroyed terrorist vehicles and confiscated equipment and drugs. According to the Army, five security personnel were also killed in the operation.

In Burkina Faso, with around 21 million inhabitants, armed groups are active, as in the neighboring states of Mali and Niger, some of which have sworn allegiance to the Islamic State terrorist group or the Al-Qaeda terrorist network.

The military government of General Ibrahim Traore, which came to power after two coups d’état in autumn 2022, has so far tried in vain to push the jihadists back. More than two million people are fleeing the country.
