Listings priced under $200,000 are a real rarity from one end of the country to the other, but Quebec City manages to stand out from the province’s other major cities.

According to a ranking published last June by Point2Homes, 9.85% of Quebec homes for sale were priced under $200,000.

In comparison, this share fell to less than 2% for the cities of Gatineau, Longueuil, Montreal and Laval.

In Laval’s case, only 0.15% of registrations were under the $200,000 mark.

Nationally, only 15 of the 50 largest cities could boast prices below $200,000 for certain listings, but that totaled 1% of the total number of homes for sale.

Buyers looking for the best deals should consider the Atlantic Provinces.

In Cape Breton, Point2Homes estimates the percentage of units selling for more than $200,000 at 55.47%.

This is the lowest proportion of all cities analyzed, followed by Regina, Saskatchewan and Saint John, New Brunswick.

To determine the top 10, the company says it examined the average home price in Canada’s 100 most populous cities before analyzing home sales there for less than $200,000.

6. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (23.47% of homes)

7. Winnipeg, Manitoba (23.45% of housing units)

8. Red Deer, Alberta (22.8% of homes)

9. St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador (13.46% of homes)

10. Quebec City (9.85% of apartments)
